The door was locked. The windows were secured. Someone got inside Apartment 4C anyway, and this time Harper Bennett has proof she has not been imagining any of it. Ray brings in the police, and together they search The Marlowe from top to bottom, checking every door, every window, and every assumption they walked in with. It is the assumption part that starts to wobble. The closer Ray compares the evidence against the story everyone has been telling themselves about who is responsible, the less that story holds together.

Then, quiet. A new camera. A door sensor. Someone watching the building. Days pass without another incident, and Harper starts asking a question she has not let herself ask in weeks: could Apartment 4C ever feel like home again? Wanting to go back is one thing. Walking through that door and staying is another.
